A rare 18th Century triple comb back stick chair

£4,500.00

Height 94 cm
Width 52 cm
Depth 47 cm

An extremely rare primitive late 18th or early 19th century Windsor chair. This extraordinary triple back chair likely came from the West Country although it’s difficult to be certain due to its rarity. It’s stunning shape and unusual triple back construction make it truly unique. We can find only one reference to a similar one in Michael Harding-Hills book Windsor Chairs where he states ‘I have only ever seen one English Windsor with an extension to the back row’, but sadly he doesn’t include an image. Constructed in Elm and Ash with some historic repairs that add more character and charm to a chair that is already full of personality this one is very special indeed. Our theory is that it was a one off commission or that it was a chair-maker enjoying a challenge by making a unique chair for their own use and pleasure.

This chair is very rare and extremely special. A collectors dream.
