19th Century Scumble Painted Welsh Settle
Height 121 cm
Width 126 cm
Depth 45 cm
A beautifully painted Welsh settle in pine. Known as ‘scumble’; the practise of painting furniture made from inexpensive woods such as pine to replicate the grain of more expensive woods like oak was common during the 19th Century. This particular settle has an unusually varied and attractive paint finish which gives it a really unique personality. A wonderful useable and attractive piece of Welsh vernacular history.
